I could have copied and pasted one of the numerous bios for Benton Falls, but instead I will write a gushing entry about how much I like them, and how I came to find them. I was 17 or so, and my crappy high school band played at the esteemed Flint Local 432 with the best lineup ever, which included Counterfit, local heroes Kid Brother Collective, and Benton Falls. I was already in love with bands like Mineral and the Appleseed Cast, and the chance to play with a Deep Elm band made me super excited. The day of the show came, and they watched us, and we watched them, they were all super nice, and they put on one hell of a show. I bought a lot of merch, they gave us sage-like advice, and when I left, I had a new favorite band. The opening track of 'Fighting Starlight' takes me right back to that time in my life, and nostalgia is a powerful drug. Again, I am high school, driving around with my friends for hours on end, listening to album after album, starry-eyed with the possibilities of the future.
If you haven't listened to Benton Falls, you really should. They have everything you need- wistful, searching vocals, clean, shimmering guitars, and a plodding rhythm section that isn't afraid to drive when needed. A blueprint for beauty
