Boyfriends- a band the 'Emo Revival' forgot gets release to remind you of how great they were

Posted on April 8th, 2021

The 'Emo Revival' was a special time period that encompassed the releases of so many incredible bands of the mid 2000s to the mid 2010s in what felt like one giant community. Bands performed in basements, houses, tiny community centers- really, anywhere they could play- to rooms full of sweaty kids all across the country, playing music with their hearts on their sleeves with little aspiration but love of their craft.

Pennsylvania was arguably the epicenter of it all. The state was not limited to one specific genre though, with many bands blending sounds and taking cues from a variety of different scenes. But history has a funny way of remembering things- for every Algernon Cadwallader or Snowing, there were 30 bands that were just as good that went unheard. You couldn't throw a rock without hitting a great DIY PA band during those days.

Enter Boyfriends, an amazing band from Lancaster, PA. Boyfriends played a brand of melodic punk rock with gruff vocals and distorted guitars. Actually, members of Boyfriends shared members with two of the most heralded acts of the entire genre, Snowing and 1994!. But Boyfriends never received their fair due. Possibly because all of their material was issued only on EPs, comp and splits or possibly because the only release that found its way to universal streaming services was the S/T 7" that we co-released back in 2011. Whatever the reason, they were overlooked and underappreciated.

With that in mind, we proudly present "A Discography of Mediocre Punk Rock (2009-2012)"- a complete collection of their discography. Whether it's revisiting songs you once loved or hearing it for the first time, these songs are special and deserve to sit alongside their more celebrated peers. Boyfriends is a band that we won't let history forget.

Surprise! Expert Timing has a brand new live EP called 'Live in Stereo' for Bandcamp Friday! All other digital is pay-what-you-want + lots of items in our Bandcamp store!

Posted on April 2nd, 2021

Happy Bandcamp Friday! Today is our biggest one ever because SURPISE! EXPERT TIMING HAS A BRAND NEW EP OUT LITERALLY RIGHT NOW. It's got four live tracks and a cover song from The Format! It's appropriately called 'Live in Stereo'. Take a gander at the album cover now:

Tracks 1 - 4 recorded live, mixed and mastered by Matt Molchany at Shards in Bethlehem, PA and
track 5 mastered by Frank Calcaterra. This EP being a recording from a live show reminds me that once upon a time, that was a real thing. Someday in hopefully not the distant future, we can see Expert Timing doing what they do best- playing music for real, live humans (and not just adorable animals).

'Live in Stereo' is going to hit the rest of the streaming services in a few weeks, but right now this puppy is a Bandcamp Exclusive. Listen here.

In the meantime, the trio is hard at work on writing a full length now and this seems like a good time to remind you that they released one of the best EPs of the summer last year in 'Whichever, Whatever'.

In other Bandcamp Friday news, we have once again made all digital PAY-WHAT-YOU-WANT, and this includes nearly everything- the new En Garde EP 'Debtors'? Camp Trash 'Downtiming'? Thank You, I'm Sorry 'I'm Glad We're Friends'? The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick 'Ways of Hearing'? Kittyhawk 'Mikey's Favorite Songs'? Yup, yup, yup, yup, yup. Classics emo revival artists of yesteryear, Empire! Empire!, Snowing, CSTVT, Joie De Vivre, and more! That's a big yes.

We also recently added so much merch- vinyl, CDs, and cassettes all available to order and ship to your door!

So go discover or rediscover some great music! What's even better? We get to keep all the cash monies you spend- no cut to Bandcamp for the entire day! This is a big deal and really helps all of the bands and the label, so we thank you for choosing to spend your hard earned cash on us. Get your spend on here and don't come back until your wallet has a nice CYLS-sized dent in it.
